Château Clos L'Eglise

Details

Château Clos L’Eglise is one of Pomerol’s historic estates. As early as 1925 it was ranked among the top Grands Crus in a classification submitted by Savinien Giraud, alongside L’Evangile, La Conseillante and Vieux Château Certan. Its origins date back to the 18th century, when it was one of the largest properties in the “heart of Pomerol” with 14 hectares. Later divisions shaped the current Clos L’Eglise, today 5.9 hectares of vineyards on the transition to the famous Pomerol plateau. Clay and gravel soils with iron deposits give depth and power to the wines. The vineyard is planted with 70% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Franc, with some vines dating back to the 1940s. In 1997 the Garcin-Cathiard family acquired the estate; today Hélène Garcin and Patrice Lévêque manage it with respect for tradition and terroir. Their vision has restored Clos L’Eglise to the top of Pomerol, producing elegant, dense and long-lived wines with an unmistakable expression of place.
