The original estate in the center of Wiltingen was built on the ancient foundations of a Roman farmstead. As a former monastery winery of the Luxembourg Jesuits, it has held extensive parcels in the best slate slopes of the Saar since the early 17th century.
After the French Revolution, brewer Gustav van Volxem, an immigrant from Brussels, became the owner. Recognizing the great potential of the privileged vineyard sites, he established the estate as one of the most renowned wineries in the empire.
In the early 2000s, the estate was acquired by Roman Niewodniczanski from the Bitburger dynasty, who restored it and expanded it with numerous top locations. In a further step, he commissioned the construction of a new manufactory high above the river valley. The architectural masterpiece meets the highest standards of ecological and social sustainability.
Here, predominantly dry, balanced, and mineral-rich wines are produced, emphasizing low vineyard yields and the highest quality - in the style of Saar wines from over 100 years ago.
