Weingut Franz Pichler

Details

The winery is a family business in the Wachau region and was founded in 1982. Most of the vineyards are terraced and located in excellent sites such as Bachgarten, Kollmitz, Harzenleiten and Gaisberg. Franz Pichler Jr. brought a breath of fresh air to the business. He graduated from the viticulture school in Klosterneuburg in 2006 and then joined his parents' business. Together with his father, he is very keen to refine the existing potential in the vineyard and cellar and to highlight the different microclimates of the individual sites. In order to achieve the desired high grape ripeness, the focus is on individual soil and canopy management and yield limitation through consistent pruning and grape thinning on the vine. The main varieties are Grüner Veltliner and Riesling, supplemented by Muscat and Pinot Blanc, which are planted on primary rock, weathered soils, loess or loam. After a late harvest, the grapes are processed as gently as possible in the cellar in order to achieve fruity and profound wines with a long ageing potential.
