Cuvée

Cuvée

Details

A blend of several grape varieties is primarily called a cuvée. The idea here is to create an optimal balance of different characteristics. A cuvée is therefore not a cheap, inferior wine. On the contrary, it gives the winemaker the opportunity to give the wine a personal touch. However, the term cuvée also applies to separately bottled wines from a winery or, in champagne production, the blending of must which comes off the press first and is of the highest quality. The French word cuvée literally means "tank" or "vat", even though it usually refers to the contents of the container, namely the wine.
