Monkey 47 is a dry gin produced in the Black Forest from the water of an in-house spring and stored in stoneware barrels. Its recipe goes back to the British Montgomery "Monty" Collins, who in 1945, as a member of the Royal Air Force, first moved to Berlin, where he was involved in the reconstruction of the Berlin Zoo and became a sponsor for a monkey named Max. After his military service, Collins settled in the Black Forest and opened the country inn "Zum wilden Affen". Here he developed a Black Forest gin whose recipe has been the basis for Monkey 47 Dry Gin since 2008. The number in the product name refers to a total of 47 ingredients used in the production process.
