Smaragd is the name for the best, most treasured wines from the Vinea Wachau-members. The alcohol content of these wines begin at 12.5% by volume. This, along with the highest grape ripeness and natural concentration are what make this world-class designation possible. Emerald-coloured Idex lizards – also known as Smaragd - are at home in the terraced vineyards of the Wachau. The 2019 Ried Loibenberg Loibner Grüner Veltliner Smaragd is very stony and lemony on the distinctive nose of crushed stones and lemon zest. Round, dense and intense on the palate, this is a rich and powerful but elegant, finessed and persistently salty Loibenberg with remarkable freshness. LOIBENBERG is one of the „Grand Crus“ of Austria. The ancient dry stone walls dating back to the 14th century reach up to 420 m above sea level. Warm pannonian airstreams make Loibenberg the „hotplate“ of the Wachau.
