The grapes for the Smaragd wines ripen in the best vineyard sites of the Wachau. They are harvested late and are true representatives of their terroir. The wines are concentrated and powerful, complex and very long-lived.

There is very nice depth with really aromatic tones of white peaches, pears, green apples, herbs and a touch of pepper. Medium/full bodied with medium acidity. This is well balanced with succulent tones of white peaches, pears, green apples, and some bits of herbs.wine:

According to myth the Rote Tor (red gate) is part of the old town wall which was saturated with blood, during the Swedish Wars. We grow GV grapes in the vinyards below, in both quality levels - Federspiel and Smaragd. The soil-type consists of gneiss, mica and schist and brown soil.Soil:
